Electrical Appliances Are Safe When Used Properly
PRESS RELEASE

Electrical Appliances Are Safe When Used Properly
We extend our sincere wishes for a speedy recovery to the citizens affected by the kitchen fire in Dikmen, which, according to initial findings, is believed to have originated from an electric coffee machine that was in operation. Our greatest consolation is that no loss of life or injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
Electrical household appliances are an indispensable part of our daily lives. However, appliances that are left operating unattended for extended periods, have reached the end of their service life, are defective, or do not comply with safety standards may pose a serious fire hazard.
As the Cyprus Turkish Electrical Contractors Association (KTEMB), we strongly recommend that the public pay particular attention to the following safety measures:
- Electric coffee machines, toasters, electric kettles, and other high-power electrical appliances should not be left unattended while in operation whenever possible.
- Electrical appliances must always be used in accordance with the manufacturer's operating instructions.
- Damaged or worn power cords, plugs, and sockets should never be used, and any faults should be repaired without delay.
- Multiple high-power appliances should not be connected to the same socket, as this may overload the electrical installation.
- Electrical installations should be inspected periodically by authorized members of the Association to identify potential risks before they lead to accidents.
- Consumers should ensure that electrical products purchased on the market comply with recognized safety standards and carry the necessary certifications.
A significant number of fires can be prevented through simple but effective safety precautions. Electrical safety is not limited to the installation itself; it also includes the proper selection of electrical appliances, regular maintenance, and their safe and responsible use.
As KTEMB, we urge all citizens to exercise greater care when using electrical appliances. We also remind the public once again that inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical installations should only be carried out by authorized and registered members of the Association in order to protect both lives and property.
