KTEMB Strengthens Safety Awareness in the Electrical Sector
The Cyprus Turkish Electrical Contractors Association (KTEMB) has successfully completed its training programs launched under the slogan “Occupational Health and Safety Is Our Priority” for technical staff employed by its member companies.
Organized to enhance occupational safety awareness among technical personnel working in member companies, the trainings were held across the Famagusta, Kyrenia, and Nicosia regions, with a total of 160 participants.
Hands-On Training by Expert Instructors
The sessions were delivered by experienced occupational safety experts Gürel Çelebi (KIB-TEK Occupational Safety Specialist) and Ercan Köseoğlu (Retired KIB-TEK Installation Control Inspector).
Participants received comprehensive information on:
Prevention of workplace accidents
Safe working practices
Reduction of electrical risks
Legal obligations and responsibilities
Special emphasis was also placed on the importance of personal protective equipment, risk assessment, and proper tool usage.
Sılalı: “The Root Cause of Accidents Is Lack of Training and Awareness”
Speaking at the closing session, KTEMB President Türkay Uzun Sılalı stated that a series of electricity-related accidents had occurred in the past two years.
Sılalı highlighted that fires had broken out due to the lack of electrical safety measures, and that fatalities had occurred as a result of electric shocks and falls from height. He continued:
“No deaths or fire incidents caused by electric shock have occurred among the staff employed by our member companies.
However, unfortunate accidents continue to happen in works carried out by non-members, due to lack of training and legal compliance.”
He emphasized that a trained and safety-conscious workforce is essential for preventing such incidents.
“Hiring Unauthorized Persons Is a Major Risk”
Sılalı also issued a strong warning to consumers, stressing the dangers of hiring unlicensed individuals for electrical work:
“Our citizens must ensure that electrical works are carried out only by authorized and certified professionals.
This is crucial for both personal safety and property protection.”
KTEMB: “Occupational Safety Will Always Be Our Priority”
President Sılalı concluded by affirming KTEMB’s commitment to maintaining regular training activities aimed at improving the culture of workplace safety:
“For us, occupational health and safety is not merely a legal requirement — it is a moral responsibility.
We will continue to uphold this principle and provide ongoing training for our members.”
Continuous Training for a Safer Future
KTEMB officials announced that additional hands-on trainings and seminars will be organized for different regions in the near future.
The Association reaffirmed its determination to raise awareness among all technical staff in the sector, working steadfastly toward the goal of zero workplace accidents.
